[PRESENTATION] Concepts on soil health in cacao agroforestry systems

As part of its series of training of trainers (TOT) on agroecological practices for environment-friendly and climate resilient cacao cultivation, the Sustainable Farming in Tropical Asian Landscapes (SFITAL) Project conducted a TOT on Soil Health and Fertility Management as Agroecological Practice for Cacao Cultivation last 26-27 June 2024 in Nabunturan, Davao de Oro. Over 30 field extensionists, farmer leaders, and representative from partner academic institutions were trained during this activity.

The first presentation during the TOT featured key concepts on soil health applicable for cacao cultivation. The slide deck used by Endri Martini, Agroforestry Systems and Extension Scientist from the Center for International Forestry Research-World Agroforestry (CIFOR-ICRAF) Indonesia Office during the said training.

Concepts on soil health in cacao agroforestry systems

This slide deck contains essential concepts on soil health applicable to cacao agroforestry systems. Specifically, it presents principles for soil health management, and the urgency of soil health in cacao agroforestry systems to ensure sustainable cacao yield. It also highlights methods for monitoring soil health in such agroforestry systems, including a comprehensive soil health assessment, soil organic matter, and soil pH.
